Michael T. Donlin, Administrator
A native of St. Cloud, MN, Mike began working in healthcare during the summers at a small rural hospital in Onamia, MN as an orderly. In 1975, he enlisted in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. After completing Hospital Corps School, he was assigned to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD where he completed the courses necessary to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University, which qualified him to apply for a Commission in the Navy Medical Service Corps.
After being commissioned in 1978, his first assignment as a healthcare administrator was at Naval Hospital, Quantico, VA followed by an operational tour with the US Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was then selected for graduate training and the Donlins moved to San Antonio, TX for the US Army-Baylor University Program in Health Care Administration which resulted in a Masters Degree in Health Administration in 1986. Donlin then began serving in a series of military hospitals, from Illinois to Virginia to Connecticut where he completed a 22-year career in June of 1998. In July 1998, Mike became the Administrator of Floyd Valley Hospital (now Floyd Valley Healthcare).
Mike and his wife Patti live in Le Mars, IA. Their three adult children are Kate (and her husband Anthony in Toronto), Chris (and Maeva with their two daughters in Brooklyn NY), and Liz in Billings MT. He serves on various boards and community organizations including Le Mars Area Dialysis Services and the Le Mars Community Betterment Foundation. Mike is also a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mike’s interests include baseball history, golf, and woodworking.
Daryl Friedenbach, Director of Finance
Daryl is the Director of Finance at Floyd Valley Healthcare having served in this position since May of 1991. He began his career with Floyd Valley Hospital in 1988 as the Director of Materials Management prior to his promotion in 1991. In his current role, he is responsible for managing the financial systems and financial planning of operations associated with the hospital and related entities.
Daryl earned his Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota in May of 1998. His undergraduate work includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from Westmar College of Le Mars, Iowa and an Associate Degree in Business Management from Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota.
A native of Bloomfield, Nebraska, Daryl is married to LeAnn and has three children Brian, Adam and Megan. In addition to being involved with numerous family activities, Daryl is also a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the Chamber Ambassadors, the Le Mars Business Initiative Corporation and other community volunteer activities.
Mary Helen Gibson, Director of Human Resources
Mary Helen is the Director of Human Resources and has been with Floyd Valley Healthcare in that capacity since 1994. In her role, Mary Helen is responsible for directing overall Human Resources operations for the hospital, Park Place Estates Assisted Living and the Floyd Valley Clinics. These responsibilities include employment/ recruitment, wage and salary program, benefits administration, employee relations and management development.
Mary Helen earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign from the school of Human Resources and Family Development in 1981. She came to Iowa in 1983 and began her Human Resources career with Harker’s Distribution, Inc. in 1989 and remained there until she joined Floyd Valley Hospital in 1994. In 2002 she earned her Master’s degree in Adult Learning, Performance and Development from Drake University.
Participation in civic activities and professional organizations is strongly encouraged at Floyd Valley Healthcare and is a strong point for Mary Helen. Current associations include the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program and the Le Mars Chamber. Mary Helen held several civic leadership positions: Past Board Chair Le Mars United Way, Sertoma, and the Big Sioux Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She is also a member of the National chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.
Lorrie Mortensen, RN, BS, MSN, MBA, Director of Patient Care
Lorrie is the Director of Patient Care and has been with Floyd Valley Healthcare in this capacity since the fall of 2016. In her current role, she is responsible for managing and directing the nursing care services.
Lorrie began her nearly 40-year nursing career after graduating from WITCC with her Associates Degree in Nursing. Her first position was with Floyd Valley Hospital from 1978 – 1983 as a staff nurse. She then spent three years with Medical Associates as a clinic nurse and returned to Floyd Valley from1986 - 1995 as a nursing supervisor. Lorrie and her family relocated to Ketchikan, Alaska where she was the Vice President of Patient Care and Risk Manager when she left in 2007. Since then, Lorrie served as the chief nursing officer in a number of facilities across the U.S. until most recently as the Chief of Patient Care Services in Slayton, Minnesota.
Both Lorrie and her late husband, Ron, grew up in Le Mars and have many family members still in the area. Lorrie has three boys (Ryan in Des Moines, Aaron and Jessica in Sioux Falls and Tyler and Rena in Alaska) and is also a proud grandmother to Isaiah.
In addition to traveling to see her boys and their families, she also enjoys gardening, reading and walking.
